guilty of robbery and murder in the death of marcos arenas all over his ipad. news 3's alexis hernandez live. what's the reaction from the young man's family? >> reed and marie, it was a very emotional courtroom as the jury read the verdict finding michael solid guilty. the family of marcos arenas, the victim in this case, began crying when the jury found michael solid of arenas was killed in 2015 after solid and jacob dismont tried to steal his ipad. arenas was dragged underneath a getaway car. he later died at the hospital. >> count one conspiracy to commit robbery. guilty of conspiracy to commit rob fi. count two, robbery. guilty of robbery. count three, murder with use of a deadly weapon.

>> reporter: right now family and friends of marcos arenas are in the courtroom talking to the jury about marcos arenas's life and how they've been affected. this is of course before the jury will decide solid's sentence. we will have reaction from the family tonight at 6:00. reporting live, alexis hernandez, news 3. >> marie: alexis thank you. >> reed: an argument between a boss and former employee ended in a shooting on the west side of the valley today. police. the boss claims he felt threatened, fired at the employee then missed. the shooting occurred in the area of metro's newly opened spring valley area command. >> marie: we know the name of the nevada highway patrol trooper whose life was saved by his badge. trooper sean peckman has been with nhp for three years. friday peckman was involved in a shootout after a traffic stop near boulder highway and u.s. 95. look, his badge took that

he ran from the car and was fatally shot. the two others in the car were detained. nhp will be holding a news conference tomorrow to release more information about what happened. >> reed: homeowners angry over cracks in their properties after a round of blasts from explosives that a home construction site near southern highlands has them talking once again. >> marie: those explosions are taking an emotional toll on some neighbors. news 3's kelsey thomas joins us live near cactus and jones the damage happened. >> reporter: this construction is happening right behind me on this huge empty lot of land. those homes with cracks we're talking about right there behind that cement wall. for one veteran that lives on that street, he says these explosions from the construction are a time machine back to war. we talked to vietnam vet nicholas who suffers from ptsd. he was showing us the cracks in his tiles, ceiling and patio. he says the explosions are also damaging his home.

>> reed: more fallout for chris brown. the local night club on he las vegas strip has announced they've cut ties with chris brown in he wake of his most recent legal troubles. the singer has a court date after he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. you are looking at video of chris brown headed toward the lapd office. the entertainer was released from custody after posting $250,000 bail a couple of hours after he pulled in. pointed a gun at her during a gathering at his home after he was arrest -- he was arrested after hours long standoff following her report. brown says he is not guilty. >> marie: it was just a 72 minute flight but is the latest step in improving 55 years of bad feelings between the u.s. and cuba. the first commercial flight between the two flew from fort lauderdale to cuba. aboard the flight were mostly airline executives, u.s. government officials and

florida and along the eastern seaboard now bracing for what could be a rough holiday weekend. >> reed: preparations underway for tropical storm hermine. it's currently headed toward the florida gulf coast with max sustained winds at 45 miles per hour. it could become a hurricane if sustained winds reach up to story miles an hour. tropical storm warnings are in affect for that area along with

issued ahead of landfall expected late thursday into friday. we'll told mandatory evacuations have been ordered in some parts. more than 8,000 national guard trops are on standby already at the ready to deploy across florida. >> we're going to have a storm surge. we're going have rain. we have the risk of tornado. this is going to go across the state. >> reed: the system could dump as much as 15 inches of rain in some areas as it pushes across ga g >> marie: hawaii ends up preparing for hurricane madeleine. a warning is in affect. hazardous marine conditions are expected through thursday as madeleine masses near or -- passes near or over the southeast part of the big island. in anticipation of the storm, crews have started to board up buildings and stacked sandbags on highways prone for flooding. these are live images from hawaii now. state officials have also activated the emergency response center.

across the skyline today. really just making for more beautiful pictures across the area. 102 degrees russell, mountain vista. checking in with a few neighborhoods. 103 at the lake mead marina. under partly cloudy skies this afternoon. 100 on the dot at the wetlands park. the rest of us are still seeing temperatures mostly in the triple-digits with the exception of 97 in summerlin. 99 centennial. and 98 for blue diamond. winds are expected to pick up a little bit more this afternoon. up to on for the day. temperatures outside the valley like we talked about 103 for lake mead. 101 boulder city. 102 pahrump. 112 at the moment in death valley. the rest of the evening in las vegas. take a look at the temperatures. we're going hang on to the triple digits next few hours. only dipping into the mid-90s by about 9:00 tonight. we're talking about the severe weather. here is a look at the tropical storm. you can already see it bringing heavy flooding along the florida coast.

at seven miles an hour. the sustained winds are around 45. much more severe as we take a look at conditions from hurricane madeleine at the coast. moving southeast point of the big island expected to move over or around it. as we take a look at the movement you can see it right there. bringing winds over -- sustained winds over story miles an hour. hurricane strength. we're talking very severe weather across the country and really when it comes to what we're seeing develop it's just an expecting changes. monsoonal moisture moving in up from the south. you can see it. as it develops over the next few days. more thunderstorms are possible over the southwest. you can see across the four corners as well as even some lingering into southern nevada. the best chances of us seeing thunderstorms develop will actually be by tomorrow afternoon. overnight we're looking at comfortable lows. very similar compared to last night with temperatures dropping into the low 80s.
